President’s Message

We had over 50 attorneys show up for our October luncheon!  Many thanks to Mercedes USA GC Matt Everitt for his interesting and enlightening remarks on risk management, and we greatly appreciate all who came to welcome Matt to Sandy Springs.

There was also a strong turnout for our recent joint event with GAWL at Teela.  The weather was wonderful, and the party was still going strong when I left at 9:15.

We’re winding down the SSBA year with two final events — the First Annual Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 10, and the Holiday Party on Dec. 7.  For those who never got around to joining for 2016, you can get a head start for 2017 — join the SSBA now for 2017 and we’ll consider you a member in good standing for the remainder of 2016 (which, if nothing else, means you get two holiday parties for the price of one).

Sincerely,

Chip Collins, SSBA President

Upcoming events

First Annual SSBA Awards Luncheon – November 10 – 11:301:00– Heritage Sandy Springs

At our monthly luncheon this Thursday, we’ll be honoring a few of our colleagues with our first-ever bestowing of awards. We’re also excited to have as our guest speaker Kellie Casey, the Advocacy Director for the University of Georgia School of Law. In her position, which she has held since 2000, Kellie teaches appellate advocacy and serves as director of the law school’s award-winning moot court and mock trial programs. As you might expect given her position, Kellie is an engaging speaker, and I’m sure she will share with us some best practices in the art of advocacy developed from her years in both private practice and academia.

Holiday Party –  Wednesday, December 7,  6:00 – 9:30 p.m. — Three Sheets, 6017 Sandy Springs Circle (City Walk)

The SSBA year will end with a bang at our annual holiday party on December 7.  This year’s event will be held at the aptly-named Three Sheets in City Walk. If you’ve never been to this facility, you’ll find it’s probably cooler than a bunch of lawyers deserve.  Nevertheless, it will be a fun venue for the festivities.  As usual, a spread of food and your first two drinks are on us!

Party sponsorships are available for $500 at the Gold Level and $350 at the Silver Level.  Sponsors receive recognition at the party and in the SSBA newsletter through March 2017.  Let any SSBA officer know if you have an interest in being a sponsor or know someone who might.

Website
The new and improved SSBA website is up and running. We’re still working on adding functions and making other improvements, so if you have any suggestions, let us know!  We have a webmaster on a monthly retainer who is dedicated to making the website a real benefit for our members.  Many thanks to Hal Whiteman for the many hours he has spent this year bringing the new website to fruition.

Membership Dues
For those who never joined for 2016 or for those who want an additional deductible business expense for this year, we’re accepting dues for 2017. Mail your check to our treasurer, Michael Moebes, Moebes Law, LLC, 260 Peachtree Street, Ste. 1001, Atlanta, GA 30303 or bring it to the meeting on Thursday.
